You mean people actually live Downtown in Pawtucket? Absolutely, and they are working to enhance the quality of life and create a successful downtown. There is a lot of talk about the potential for Downtown Pawtucket, but many people are actually living it! Made up of residents, business owners, and other interested parties – both new and old- PADS 02860 is a neighborhood association committed to improving the downtown experience. The organization focuses its efforts on economic revitalization, public safety, beautification and creating reasons to celebrate Pawtucket’s diverse cultural life.

A small group of new residents concerned about the future of Downtown Pawtucket organized PADS 02860 early in 2005. The group created the neighborhood association in response to renewed residential use and growing interest in the new commercial developments in the district. PADS hopes to foster a spirit of civic engagement among Pawtucket’s diverse community members.

The first community meeting at the Pawtucket Public Library attracted a large group of people interested in Downtown, and PADS 02860 continues to meet in newly renovated spaces and businesses in the Downtown area. Over one-hundred fifty people have already joined the PADS communication network, while support from business and community groups continues to grow.

PADS hopes to serve as a vehicle for positive change in Downtown Pawtucket and to create a space for sharing ideas and conversation. Through the meetings and web site, the group offers access to information about Downtown activity and the people driving Downtown decisions. PADS believes that residents can build support for Downtown by promoting programs, services, and activities where neighbors are encouraged to participate in civic life, connect, and communicate.
